Golf for all ages

Whether you’re eight or eighty; golf is a brilliant way to spend sunny afternoons with your loved ones. The sport allows for all family members to partake together and caters to all levels. From colourful crazy golf course to professional golf lawns; there’s something for everyone! It’s time to get the kids out in the sunshine and fresh air and challenge Granddad to a round!

Crazy Golf

With an array of fun designs, crazy golf is a fun activity that all ages can enjoy. From slides, rotating windmills, mini sand pits and mounds; there are a variety of obstacles to tackle, designed for you to show off your golfing skills. On entry, each player is often given a choice of colour golf ball and club – so no fighting over who gets the red one! Players can choose to participate as individuals or in a team. Be prepared for a few sneaky moves from family members too (everyone saw Dad nudge the ball in with his foot!). Often, there is a final challenge, in which golfers are given the chance to win a free game if they put the ball in the correct, scoring hole - a bargain, if you can navigate all of the trap holes and ridges!

Look out for promotions and programmes in your local town or county that allow children to play for free. Usually these are part of a health living scheme, which aim to inspire children to take part in sports, promoting a healthy lifestyle. It is also worth checking with the course as to whether they offer a discount for veterans.

Children’s birthday parties (and indeed parties for big kids!) are a great way of getting creative! Surprisingly, because of the large nature of the ships, the courses are rather sturdy too, despite being at sea!

With spring on our doorsteps, it’s time to get outdoors and onto the golfing greens to fully appreciate what the season and indeed the sport has to offer. Disconnecting the Xbox for one Sunday afternoon so that your teen can spend time upping their Vitamin D under a brilliant blue sky will, contrary to their belief, not kill them. As a novice golfer, you will not need to invest in high tech kit, clubs or even balls. Crazy golf courses will provide you with clubs and balls; you simply need to wear sensible footwear and comfortable clothing. When looking to play on an actual golfing green, you will often be provided with your own score card, layout booklet and pencil. Some may provide you with a golf glove or balls, but few will offer this. It is therefore advisable that you come equipped with your own set of clubs, balls, tees, suitable golf clothes and other such equipment. It's time to give family golf a try!
