Cobra King LTD Driver
In a recent trend of companies re-imagining an old idea there has been no shortage of success stories. Now it is Cobra’s turn to bring back a legend with the King LTD Driver. Many of you will remember Greg Norman dominating the game not so long ago, in his bag was the original King Cobra equipment; now it is back but it is not of this world.
The Return of the King
The King Ltd driver is the culmination of years of research and development from the team at Cobra, made of the best materials available and mind bending technology, the King Ltd promises to be the longest and straightest driver that Cobra have ever produced.
There is A LOT of tech in this driver, so let me take you on a journey into some space age ideas!
SPACEPORT
Your eyes are not deceiving you, this driver has a Spaceport. This port looks extremely cool on the sole of the driver, but it is so much more than just a viewing area for the technology that Cobra are using. Made from Aerospace grade aluminium this 16 gram weight is positioned to deliver insanely low CG and very high MOI...This combination only leads one way; a long way down the middle of the fairway.
ZERO CG
This has been coming for a while, as CG has been getting lower and lower on golf clubs we finally have a club that has managed to the CG exactly on the neutral axis of the head, meaning the effective centre of gravity is at a big fat zero. This will produce better a better energy transfer at impact without forgiveness being impacted. The overall line, more distance thanks to a high launch with low spin and higher ball speed.
Crowning a King
Every manufacturer is trying to make weight savings where they can; the Cobra King Ltd is no different. A very thin but extremely strong crown (Cobra call this technology TeXtreme Carbon Fibre) has allowed them to move the weight to where it is needed. The result....straighter, longer drivers more frequently...that has got to be a good thing!
The King has also had some facial reconstruction work done; the speed channel from last year’s Fly Z makes an appearance, offering thinner face thickness which in turn increases ball speed across the face. The now infamous E9 face zoning technology Cobra use has been re-imagined alongside the variable thickness structure of the 811 Titanium Face, both are really boosting ball speed, especially on those off centre impacts.
Adjustable approach
Cobra have again used the MyFly loft sleeve which is probably the most straightforward loft sleeve on the market, the SmartPad technology also lives on, meaning the face always presents nice and square regardless of the setting that you are using.
The King Ltd is also available in a Pro version, this features a smaller profile and more fade bias to suit the better player’s eye. There will also be a fairway wood to match into the set, giving you the same driving performance in a fairway metal.
