The Wilson Staff Model Utility Iron is finally here after being a sought after club that was a vital part of Gary Woodland’s US Open win. The Iron comes in 3 different lofts, designed to fit into wherever you need it in your bag. The utility iron is the perfect blend of iron and hybrid to create a club that sits between the two for maximum performance.
The iron was originally thought of to go into the bags of tour players who want the forgiveness and reliability of a hybrid, but the looks, feel and control of an iron. The iron is incredibly long, with Wilson dialing in the numbers to optimise the launch angle and get the flight needed for as much yardage as possible.
The face is made from C300 which is a very strong metal that helps to increase ball speed off the face of the club. This extra speed does not just come from the middle, the design of this face allows for speed across the whole of the clubhead to make for consistent distances that will keep your ball going at the right distance even from miss hits.
As you can see on the sole of the club there is a weight that helps to increase the playability of the iron, making it easy to hit. The weight also helps to move the CG lower in the face which enables the ball to have a high, piercing flight that will add distance and also come down soft on the greens.
