What Type Of Golf Shoes Should I Buy?

Many golfers feel that their most essential item on their course is their club, but here’s why what’s truly number one is their golf shoes.

Your feet must be comfortable, given that on average, you might walk four miles during an 18-hole round. Also, you’ll feel more confident sporting a shoe design that compliments your style, allowing you to perform better.

So, whether you’re just starting out or need a new pair, here are some steps to help you narrow down your search criteria and find the golf shoe that’s right for you.

Step 1: Spikes or Spikeless?

  • Spikes

Spiked golf shoe have been the more traditional shoe design of golfers. Featuring a set of sharp cleats on the bottom of the outsole (often called spikes), they provide more traction, more lateral stability, keeping your feet locked in place for executing that perfect swing, even on a slippery slope. And so, they’re generally recommended when playing on wet or hilly courses.

  • Spikeless

Because spikeless shoes are designed more like normal shoes, they are generally lighter and more comfortable. The better choice for dry conditions, they’re more versatile as they can be worn off the golf course. Browse our range of spikeless golf shoe.

Step 2: Choose your style

  • Traditional

The classic style golf shoes look like dress shoes. They’re durable, often made from natural leather, but they can’t be worn off the course. If you prefer a classic design, we’ve got various colour options to suit your taste.

  • Modern spiked

These lightweight shoes feature an athletic design. They’re often made from synthetic leather and can’t be worn off the course.

  • Modern spikeless

The modern spikeless golf shoe design features a more casual look, similar to streetwear. They’re very comfortable to wear, but we’d recommend spiked shoes for wet and hilly terrain.

Most feature rubber studs or dimpled soles in place of spikes, so they’re perfect for the 19th hole and firm surfaces like the driving range.

  • Golf boots

A rare version of the golf shoe, golf boots are designed to look very similar to hiking boots, and are a great waterproof alternative to a shoe. Although heavier than the shoe, it offers great traction and warmth for golfing during the winter months.

Step 3: Material

  • Natural leathers

More suitable for warmer weather, natural leather golf shoes mold to your feet, and are naturally waterproof. Ourpremium leather golf bootsand full grain leather boots combine functionality with style.

  • Synthetics

Synthetic golf shoes are lighter and also easier to clean. Unlike natural leather, synthetic shoes are not naturally waterproof, but they’re better for cold weather.

Step 4: All the other essentials

Although water-resistant shoes repel water to some degree, waterproof golf shoes cannot be penetrated by water, and the top material featured in a waterproof shoe is Gore-Tex.

We’ve got waterproof shoes to suit every taste - including classic style waterproof golf shoes and waterproof golf boots, from a wide range of brands including Nike, adidas and Ecco.

Step 5: Find the perfect fit

Complete the steps by going through the checklist below to ensure you’ve got the perfect fit:

  • A quarter to half an inch of room in the forefoot for comfort.
  • No pain or pressure points when walking.
  • Where the shoe bends in the forefoot should align with the flex of your foot.
  • There shouldn’t be room for your feet to slide around
  • There should be a space about a thumb’s width wide of space between the top eyelets when laced

With a multitude of options, deciding which golf shoes are better for you can be overwhelming, especially if you’re new to the game.
