British Golf Open 2016 – Round Up
The British Golf Open is set to return for its 145th year this July, starting on the 10th and coming to its (likely) dramatic climax on the 17th.
It has been a year of ups and downs for the golf industry, with the acceptance of golf as an Olympic sport being one of the main highlights. The eruption of the Zika virus in Rio and the subsequent pulling out of numerous high profile golfers was a highly controversial issue; its result is that the British Open may well be seen as more important than ever for golfers such as Rory McIlroy who will be missing out on Rio 2016.
Here’s our round up on things to do and see, ones to watch and general need-to-know information about this year’s tournament at the Royal Troon.
Attractions
Make the most out of your day at the Open by making sure you know exactly what’s on.
Autograph Area – if you wish to meet and greet your favourite players, then the autograph area is clearly designated and signposted in order to assist all spectators and players.
ATM – there will be a full HSBC banking service available on site so that you won’t be caught short without cash.
Big Screens – there will be several large, electronic screens showing up-to-the-minute leader boards dotted around the golf course so you can keep up with the action. Moreover, there will be big screens showing the golf games unfold so you can watch the games in comfort in the spectator village area.
Refreshments – there will be a wide range of food and drink available at the many licensed catering sites located both on the course and in the spectator village.
Official Programmes – don’t forget your official programme! They will be available from the many kiosk points, so you can take it home and keep it as memorabilia of your day.
Camping
If you are under the age of 25 and hold a ticket for The Open, you have the option to camp in The Open Camping Village, free of charge.
Located just a short walk from the golf course at Marr Rugby Club, the village has a range of tents that can accommodate anything from 2-6 people per tent. These tents are already pitched and ready for spectators to set up camp, and food, drink, shower facilities, complimentary camp beds and free parking are all available on site.
