Adidas Shoes - 'Green Friendliness'

 2013

Ok! The 2013 Adidas Golf Shoes caused a bit of a stir GOOD AND BAD!

The Good - Adidas created the lightest shoe in golf with revolutionary technology to provide easily one of the most popular and most talked about shoes for some time.

The Bad -  Some complaints from green staff started to rise regarding 'green friendliness' which created inaccurate information being circulated.

I feel it is important for you to read the below on what Adidas have got to say about these problems (may get into trouble for this)

1. All adidas golf shoes have to undergo several stringent tests to ensure they are fit for purpose. This includes testing for comfort, durability, grip, waterproofness and the cleat mark recovery speed. With the cleat mark test we measure the impact made by the shoe on the green and then crucially how long it takes for any cleat marks to recover. This test is conducted in various green conditions (from dry to very wet). The adizero Tour passed all these tests.

2. The adizero Tour was launched in January 2013 and has been worn and enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of golfers across the globe. It’s only in the last couple of months we have been made aware of any concerns and to our knowledge this appears to have been isolated to just the UK.

3. It was the best-selling shoe in the UK from Feb to Sept 2013*. During this time we had the wettest spring on record. No issues were reported.

4. Throughout 2013 and into 2014 it has been worn on every Professional Tour around the world in various conditions with no issues being reported.

5. It was worn at every Major Championship in 2013 by players such as Sergio Garcia and Jason Day.

6. The adizero Tour has not been banned by any official golf body.

7. There are many factors that will contribute to the speed of any golf shoes cleat mark recovery speed. These include the time of day the round is played, the condition of the green (particularly in extreme wet conditions) and also a golfer’s weight.

2014

So January 2014 saw the launch of the new Adizero one golf shoe which replaced the 2013 Adizero Tour. This has been warn on all professional tours with fantastic victories from Sergio Garcia, Stephen Gallacher and Jason Day.

The shoes continues its extremely lightweight performance with an ever lower profile design and a softer stealth cleat (used by other major brands). The new adizero had an even quicker cleat mark recovery time to other competitors models.
