For every course, shot and lie there is a Vokey SM9 wedge ready to do great things. Finding the best grind for your own personal swing is imperative if you are going to get the best turf interaction and contact possible. Loft and distance is a great starting point for choosing a wedge or multiple wedges but go to the wedge selector to discover what grind and bounce will improve your own personal wedge play. Bounce and grind play a major part in how the ball is struck and shouldn't be underestimated.
The material and structure of the new SM9 wedges represent the companies most technologically advanced design to date, optimised and tuned for lower flight and higher spin. The grind applied to each wedge releases a creative edge that only Bob Vokey can apply. Every Vokey wedge made is a demonstration of reality, precision and craft. Bob has an unwavering passion for creating the best wedges. Instinct, passion and creativity keep the best wedges getting better.
Bob Vokey and Aaron Dill, who is the trusted advisor to the world's best players, have formed a trusting relationship that gets stronger with time, both have spent thousands of hours learning golfers games and habits to create the SM9. One week, one wedge, one grind at a time. From total beginner to Tour professional, every level of golfer is catered for with the SM9.
Nothing spins like a Vokey wedge! The new SM9's grooves are cut right to the edge for the maximum spin possible. A localised heat treatment is applied at the impact area to double the durability of the grooves. Each and every wedge is 100% quality control inspected for the utmost quality. The SM9 now goes to new heights, taking the forward centre of gravity (CG) and raising it even further than ever before, the result is a more solid contact and controlled flight.
With a new spin milled process, the SM9's produce consistently sharper grooves in every wedge, giving the spin to attack those tight pins with confidence. Spin Milled grooves are the gold standard in groove cutting precision, micro-grooves are also individually cut in-between the main grooves to increase spin on partial shots. Each groove is individually cut based on the loft and finish, the lower 46º to 54º wedge grooves are narrower, deeper grooves, whilst the grooves in the 56º to 62º display wider, shallower grooves. These are the most durable grooves in golf.
The new SM9 still maintains the forward centre of gravity position, this position hovers in front of the face to produce a solid feel and keep the face square at impact. Progressive hosel lengths are used to raise the centre of gravity in the higher lofts of 58º to 62º.
As a general rule of thumb, Bob Vokey likes to recommend a higher bounce sand wedge and a lower bounce lob wedge, this sets the player up for multiple shots in varying ground conditions. Choose wedges that complement one another, the variety of shots that can be executed by these wedges is endless, high chips, low chips, bump and run, flop shots, bunker shots, tight lies, rough, semi-rough, all need to be considered when choosing the grind and bounce. Vokey recommends 4º to 6º of loft difference in-between wedges, 46/50/54/58 or 46/52/58 as an example. Both are great choices by the way. With a total of six grinds in the new SM9 lineup, you can find the right combination of bounce and grind for your personal game.
Vokey designed wedges are the Tour standard, giving shot versatility for any standard of player. The #1 wedge on all three Tours, PGA, European Tour and LPGA Tour. Brand ambassadors Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth and Patrick Cantlay to name just a few professionals put their trust in Vokey wedges every week, and they all excel at getting close to the pin from short range.
