Titleist SM6 Wedges Review

Since the beginning of time, well recent time, there has been one brand which has set the level in wedge performance and innovation. That brand is Titleist and the man pushing the range forward is Bob Vokey.

Bob has been making golf clubs of all shapes and sizes since 1976 originally on his own before moving to Taylormade in 1986. After a short spell Bob left TM to follow a venture with the legendary Gary Adams, until eventually in 1996 Bob struck a deal with Titleist where his work with wedges would capture the imagination of the tour…the rest is history.

Onto our Titleist SM6 wedges review. Well, the big story is a progressive centre of gravity. This mixes in well with the story of the 716 irons and it should mean that your trajectory and distance control will become a lot more consistent. Making it a good golf essential to have.

The gap wedges feature a lower CG which will lower the centre of gravity to give more mass behind the ball which of course leads to increased ball speed to enable your gaps to be consistent.

The sand wedges in the range feature mid CG giving similar benefits to the gap wedges but with more control rather than being hot off the face.

The higher lofted wedges feature a high CG to let you really control trajectory on partial shots better than before with some really impressive spin numbers.

We cannot review the Titleist SM6 wedges without discussing how they come fully loaded with new TX4 grooves. These are the most aggressive grooves we have seen in a wedge ever since the groove rule changed. The groove pattern changes as you go through the set, 46-54 degree wedges have narrow and deep grooves with the 56-62 having wide grooves, pushed to the limit to produce maximum spin. Another clever feature of the TX4 grooves is the parallel face texture which creates a really consistent groove wedge with a much higher level of tolerance. The story is exciting.

Onto the grind!

Titleist SM6 wedges feature a wide range of grind options to suit most players style of play.

F Grind - A traditional full sole with medium to high bounce, the F Grind is an all-purpose wedge, particularly suited for full shots.

M Grind - Heel, toe and trailing edge grind provides for maximum versatility around the greens.

S Grind - Trailing edge and heel grind provides stability on full shots while maintaining versatility around the greens.

K Grind - The wide sole provides for excellent bunker play, while camber enhances greenside shot versatility.

L Grind - Enhanced heel, toe and trailing edge grind provides maximum versatility best fit for firm playing conditions.
