TaylorMade are once again back for the new season. And they have brought with them the striking Stealth HD Irons. TaylorMade have long been known in golf as a force to be reckoned with. Their technology always pushes the limits of golf clubs, and they are more than happy to redesign and reinvent along the way. And they have done this once again with the Stealth HD Irons. A club so packed with brilliant technology, it will be impossible to not give them a try given the chance.
For starters, you can see straight away how unique these irons look. The Cap Back design instantly grabs the attention. An extra bit of cavity protrudes from the sole of the club and gives a confidence-inspiring look. The Cap Back has been made with a combination of High-Strength Stainless Steel, and ultralight-weight polymers. This design is used to maximise the forgiveness in the club by lowering its CG. A lower CG will also help to promote a high-launching flight, helping you get the ball up in the air, and subsequently getting a softer landing on the green with more control.
The Stealth HD's High Launching distance also comes alongside a draw bias head. This is to help the user obtain a more consistent flight and hit more successful shots more often.
You may notice the shallow face on the Stealth HD's. This isn't just to give the club a unique look, it has some incredibly clever ideas behind it. The shallow face, combined with a wide sole helps to keep the CG low. As mentioned before the low CG is what gets the ball up in the air and creates great forgiveness. Another benefit of this, alongside the increased sole curvature, is to enable better turf interaction, so you can hit cleaner shots more often.
The new ECHO-Damping system is a great addition to the HD's. It helps to create a great sound, whilst also dampening the harsh vibrations. By dispersing these vibrations off the face, it helps to create a soft, forged-like feel.
As we've seen over the past few years, TaylorMade have great faith in their Patented Speed Pocket. And rightly so! The Speed Pocket has been engineering to maximise face flexibility which will increase ball speed off the club head. These thin faces are not only super quick, but add lots of forgiveness, especially when hit low off the face. When you hit the ball low off the face, it tends to create too much spin, and your ball will die out in the air, usually stopping short of the target. This Speed Pocket will help to minimise that loss, so even on poor strikes, you're not too far off where you were expecting to be.
