Cobra is sitting proudly at the top of the tree at the moment with Bryson DeChambeau winning Tour events like they are going out of fashion and having just recently topped those with the superb victory in the US Open at Winged Foot where he comprehensively destroyed the field and shot four rounds that were just mind-boggling. A golf course that is brutal and renowned for yielding higher scores.
Cobra King has unveiled their new Tour Iron steel set with MIM ( Metal Injection Moulding) technology. The tour cavity back shape looks stunning and is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Manufactured using MIM technology to carry out the most precise shaping with an incredibly soft feel that better players desire and crave. This iron set is softer than any forged offerings on the market, and like their wedge counterparts, offer better consistency in shaping for more precision shot-making on the course. While soft feel and consistency are important in the short game, optimizing these attributes throughout an entire iron set will give golfers better performance across a much wider range of shot choices. Building off the popularity of its KING MIM Wedges, COBRA is applying MIM Technology to a full set of irons for the first time and totally reinventing the way premium irons are designed and manufactured. MIM manufacturing produces a more precise finished product, utilizing fewer steps and minimal hands-on post-process polishing, unlike traditional forging and casting processes, each iron head is created using a mixture of 304 stainless steel metal powder, which is then heated up and injected into a mould. During the sintering process, the metal is heated to a higher temperature than forgings (1340°C vs. 1200°C) resulting in a tighter-aligned grain structure that truly delivers the highest level of precision and soft feel, rivalling that of carbon steel forgings. The final step is hand polishing to give the perfect satin finish that looks very desirable to the eye. While many forgings require moderate polishing to remove excess materials, MIM technology requires only subtle polishing to ensure the shape is consistent from set to set.
The MIM process has been used over the past two years to deliver softer and more precisely shaped designs in the wedges. Tom Olsavsky, Vice President of research and development for COBRA Golf said “Now, in response to demand from better players and our Tour staff players, seeking the same benefits in a full set of irons, our research and development team delivered the KING TOUR Irons. These irons are softer than any forged offerings on the market today, and like their wedge counterparts, offer better consistency in shaping for more precision shot-making out on the golf course. While soft feel and consistency is vitally important in the short game, optimizing these attributes throughout an entire iron set will give golfers better performance across a wider range of shot selections”
In addition to the MIM process, the new KING TOUR Irons incorporate a whole hose of technologies that drive precision, forgiveness, and excellent feel in a players cavity back iron. A tungsten weight in the toe better positions the centre of gravity behind the hitting zone to deliver the purest, most precise shots with added stability that keeps the ball on target all the time.
A thermoplastic polyurethane insert is positioned behind the hitting zone to damp vibrations for a soft and butter-like feel at impact. COBRA CONNECT Technology, The COBRA CONNECT, Powered by the Arccos system utilises Smart grips on each iron that sync with the Arccos Caddie app to give users the ability to track their shot data so they can continuously improve their game. The purchase of each set of KING TOUR Irons includes a 90-day free trial of the Arccos Caddie app.
